Windows 11 Update Targets Mouse Stutter in Games
Microsoft shipped KB5127648 on October 13 for Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2. On 24H2, it raises the OS build to 26100.9711; on 25H2, to 26200.9711; and on 26H2, to 26300.9711. The Microsoft release notes say the update addresses mouse input stuttering in some games, but do not explain what caused the bug or name the affected titles.
The fix did not appear in the September 22 optional preview, so it arrived with the October update. Players can install KB5127648 through Windows Update or download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog. It is a cumulative update. Alongside the mouse fix, it addresses File Explorer and Always On VPN issues. It also includes fixes for printing and audio playback, plus fingerprint sign-in.
The release points to Windows as part of the problem, rather than establishing that a mouse itself was at fault.
Players reported erratic camera control
In June, a Windows 11 user posted on Microsoft Q&A that an update had disrupted mouse behaviour in Star Wars: The Old Republic and Final Fantasy XIV. In SWTOR, the user said pressing the Windows key and returning to the game could make the camera spin. In Final Fantasy XIV, they reported that the cursor kept moving as they turned the camera, then could disappear toward the edge of the screen.
Microsoft has not confirmed that either game was affected by the bug addressed in KB5127648. The release note says only that mouse input could stutter "in some games." It gives no count of affected players.
Microsoft has not disclosed the cause
KB5127648 confirms that Microsoft addressed the issue in Windows, but the company has not disclosed its technical cause or identified the affected titles. NerdsMagazine has also covered separate Dolby Digital app crashes on Windows. That report concerned audio-related failures, not mouse input.
The October 2026 Patch Tuesday update includes the mouse-stutter fix for Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2. It was also the first Patch Tuesday for version 26H2. For Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro, the update marked the end of the regular support period. Users can install it through Windows Update or get it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
