Custom Nvidia Pascal drivers unlock modern displays on Windows XP

A modder has made Nvidia Pascal GPUs work on Windows XP 32-bit, bringing DisplayPort and HDMI features once thought impossible to the old OS.

SupraGSX has pulled off what many thought couldn't be done. Nvidia's Pascal graphics cards, long blocked from Windows XP, now run on 32-bit XP with working DisplayPort and HDMI support. This isn't a theory. It's real. Users are already testing it.

The breakthrough comes from custom ForceWare 382.69 drivers. SupraGSX started with Nvidia's last official XP driver, 368.81. He added firmware from Quadro 376.84 and brought in Video Protected Region support from GeForce 378.78 for Windows 7. The result is a patchwork that lets modern GPUs work on an OS from 2001. It took careful work. SupraGSX combined pieces from several sources to keep old hardware useful.

Nvidia's official support for Windows XP ended with the Maxwell generation, leaving Pascal GPUs without any official XP drivers until this community-led project emerged.

More GPUs, more display options

The list of supported cards is long. It covers the GeForce GTX 10-series (except the GT 1030), Quadro P2000 through P6000, and even some early support for the GTX 1050 Ti. Desktop OEM versions of the GTX 950 and GTX 960 also work. SupraGSX keeps updating the project. Users should check the README for the latest info.

Modern monitors usually cause trouble for old systems. Not here. These drivers add DisplayPort HBR2 and HBR3, HDMI 2.0 detection, mode-retry fail-safes, and better scaling and aspect ratio controls in the Nvidia Control Panel. Early testers say ultrawide screens and high refresh rates now work. That was impossible before. A detailed compatibility report confirms support for GeForce GTX 1060, 1070, 1070 Ti, 1080, 1080 Ti, TITAN X (Pascal), TITAN Xp, and Quadro P2000, P2200, P4000, P5000, and P6000.

How to install and get help

The installer is in the project's releases section. SupraGSX is active on the Vogons forums. He answers bug reports and takes feature requests. Some users have asked about Windows XP 64-bit. There was a fork for that, but it was deleted. The binaries are still on Mega.

The modified ForceWare 382.69 driver is recognized by independent tech resources as a functioning unofficial release, not just a concept, and is actively discussed in community forums as of October 2026.

These drivers are unofficial. Use them at your own risk. Don't install them on systems where you can't afford problems.

SupraGSX's project shows what the retrocomputing community can do. By connecting modern GPUs to Windows XP, he gives old hardware a new shot at life. Enthusiasts can now push vintage systems further than ever. For retro gaming and system preservation, this changes the game.
