When Snapchat first came up, it was a pretty revolutionary concept for the social media scene. This is an app that allows you to snap a picture and send it to the viewer for a few seconds. Once the time on the clock counts down, the picture self-destructs.
Snapchat Serves a Basic Need in Social Media
It is a pretty cool app, especially for those that like to take random pics throughout the day to share with their friends. Not every picture you take is one that you want to save forever.
These features have been what makes the app unique. Now that it has been out for a while, it’s time they made some updates to take it to the next level.
Introducing Discover
The latest feature came out in January of this year. Now you can Discover what is going on in the world around you. This is basically a newsfeed that you can access.
Those that use Snapchat will be able to access content from big companies like ESPN, Vice, Warner Music, and CNN. Of course, there is money to be made in this for the companies that are being promoted.
Is This a Feature That Will Be Useful?
It is kind of hard to say whether or not Snapchat users are going to like this latest feature. Maybe not like it, more than just find it to be of value.
In my opinion, a lot of snapchat users are younger, say teenage and pre-teen years. One good thing is that there are a fair amount of adults on there, because they are using it to talk to their teenagers. This feature might be of great value to them.
For me personally, I don’t have enough time in the day to add in any more news or content. I use Snapchat for the basic feature of sending along dumb pics.
In fact, the newness of the app really wore off for me a few months ago. That could be why they are working toward adding features that would keep the attention of an adult audience.
One thing to take note of is that you will not automatically receive the update. You will need to go in and initiate the update manually.
What about you? Do you think that this is a valuable feature?
