Escape from Tarkov servers go dark for massive PvE prestige overhaul
At 3 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, Escape from Tarkov players found themselves locked out. Battlestate Games shut down every server. No one could log in. No raids, no connections. The blackout was total.
This was not a local glitch. Battlestate Games took the entire game offline everywhere. PvP and PvE both went down. The company said maintenance would last five to seven hours. Most players know it can take longer. According to a Polygon report, patch 1.2.0.0 officially launched on October 6, 2026. The patch rolled out after the global maintenance window. Players got access soon after servers came back.
The new PvE prestige system features six levels, and rewards earned through prestige are permanent-they do not disappear after a wipe.
The main event in patch 1.2.0.0 is the prestige system for PvE. For the first time, players who stick to fighting AI can reset their progress for permanent prestige levels and special rewards. This works like the PvP prestige system but with its own perks. Players can earn TarCoin for the Expansions Hub, unique items like the NKVD Finka knife, the Akula dagger, and the Gamma secure container. These rewards only work in PvE. Progress in Escape from Tarkov: Arena stays the same.
There is more. Enemy bots, especially PMC bots, are getting a big update. They will show up more often and in smarter spots. Expect to see them at quest zones and other key places. Their gear now matches their level and faction better. For the first time, PMC bots can appear in the Labyrinth. These changes aim to make PvE raids less predictable and tougher. Bots should last longer before players find them. Developers have cut down on randomness in the number of PMC bots per raid. They should appear a bit more often and survive longer thanks to new interactions with Scavs and other PMCs.
Better reconnection and new referral program
Patch 1.2.0.0 also fixes raid reconnection. Anyone who has lost gear after a disconnect knows the pain. Now, getting back into a raid should be easier and less risky. This upgrade helps everyone, no matter the mode.
Battlestate Games is also rolling out the EXFIL Brothers referral program, called Combat Cohesion in the client. This lets experienced players team up with up to five newcomers. Both sides get rewards as the new players hit milestones. As explained in the Polygon coverage, the program helps new players learn Tarkov while veterans earn rewards with their recruits.
Battlestate Games has increased skill progression speed by up to 60% across all game modes, aiming to make player advancement more noticeable and rewarding.
What players should expect next
With Tarkov offline, there is no point spamming the login button. It will not help. When servers return, players will need to update the game through the Battlestate Games launcher. The first hours after a big patch often bring login queues, bugs, or even more downtime as developers fix new problems. Full patch notes will go live on the official website. Players should watch Battlestate Games' social channels for updates.
Escape from Tarkov is known for its tough gameplay and loyal fans. This update brings PvE prestige, smarter bots, and better reconnection. Battlestate Games is betting on big changes. The all-in shutdown may annoy some, but it shows the studio is willing to take the hit now to deliver real improvements. For Tarkov players, patience could pay off. The game may be tougher and more rewarding for months ahead.
