Cyberpunk 2077 First Gameplay Reveal Looks Amazing

Cyberpunk 2077 is a highly anticipated RPG which takes place in a timeline where technology and society have evolved in some ways that are familiar and others that are totally surprising. The sci-fi title, born from the creative team at CD Projekt Red, the acclaimed team behind such games as Witcher 3, has been in development since at least 2012. Gamers have been eager for any leak or news to surface but for years the rumor mills have run dry.

In February we heard from CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński and CFO Piotr Nielubowicz at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar. They briefly described Cyberpunk 2077 as more ambitious than any of the previous Witcher titles including the massively successful Witcher 3.  The heads of CD Projekt Red said players can expect an expansive open–world RPG with open-ended gameplay, strictly intended for mature audiences. It’s yet to be seen whether or not the game’s release will coincide with the possible release of the PS5. However, it is being developed for next-generation technology and “true to life visuals.”

This week marks the first major release from the development team behind Cyberpunk 2077 since the brief E3 2018 trailer. And what a release it was. We have been provided nearly an hours worth of gameplay along with a look at what we can expect from customization, the world, how your actions will impact your character and how your story progresses.

Work In Progress

We learn at the beginning of the video the gameplay walkthrough we are seeing is not necessarily representative of the final product. That being said the game still looks more beautiful, vibrant and overall better than anything currently available. that being said, everything you see in the walkthrough is ultimately subject to change.

Deep Customization

Being that Cyberpunk 2077 is a narrative-driven RPG customization is an extremely important aspect of the game and the player’s experience. Prior CD Projekt Red games have allowed for customization only of weapons and gear, we all played as Gerolt. In this way, Cyberpunk 2077 is completely different from the Witcher series. Not only can you pick between male and female characters, you also are responsible for building their backstory which will impact your gameplay and overall experience.

Clothing will not provide you with protective stats like armor but will also be used to display your “street cred” a type of experience acquired by completing side missions.

Upgrades And Skills

Since Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in the future it would only make sense for our characters to have access to crazy and powerful upgrades and skills. From hacking enemies to infect the whole gang with a virus to climbing up walls and ricocheting bullets around corners, this sci-fi RPG doesn’t look like it will leave players disappointed. Every player will have multiple ways to upgrade their character and change the way they play the game.

Weapons

The gameplay walkthrough wouldn’t be complete without a daring show of firepower. The walkthrough features weapons ranging from an automatic pistol, wall-piercing shotgun, and smart bullet submachine gun. Each weapon offers different attributes and will ultimately impact how you approach each interaction.

Conclusion

The wide range of possibilities displayed in the first gameplay demo alone should encourage any fan of CD Projekt Red who feels they haven’t delivered in a while. It’s important to remember the studio only has Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 as titles. They work hard and put incredible amounts of time and energy into their projects. If the development team has learned from everything they experienced through the Witcher series then the gaming community should fasten their seatbelts, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a wild ride.
