Can AI Take Over Human Labor?

The idea of AI labor is becoming a reality with every passing minute. New technologies are getting introduced and becoming successful. AI is a part of the rapid technological evolution, and researchers are actively working to introduce different kinds of robots in different sectors. It won’t be wrong to state that the time is near when AI will be present in every house and every electric appliance. But the question is, can AI take over human labor?

Technology did take away labor opportunities from humans in the past century. The human labor at factories was replaced by machines in many sectors. Technology did take over human labor, but can AI also take over human labor? The answer depends on various factors. Let’s take a deep dive into different sectors and how AI is replacing humans there?

Health sector:

The health sector is one of the most important sectors for human beings. We have understood its importance now more than ever because of Covid-19. Scientists and researchers are actively performing researches in the medical and health sectors; therefore, AI is needed the most in this field.

AI nurses and caretakers play a role in taking good care of patients, whereas, it is also being used for assistance in surgeries, research related to human health, and much more. However, they are not as effective as it should be. Therefore, it will be fair to state that AI has not yet taken over human labor in the health sector, but it certainly can, very soon. However, human doctors are here to stay for a long while.

Internet sector:

Another rapidly evolving sector is the internet sector, where artificial intelligence will play a crucial part. As many businesses are moving online, they are expecting services to run online. Currently, humans are playing an effective role in content creation by utilizing their writing, management, and creative designing skills. The Internet has given a platform to business online, where they could reach a larger audience in less time.

This sector has not only generated ease for businesses but also has created opportunities for the masses. Many people are working in the internet sector by providing services to help a business grow.

Moreover, it is expected that AI will soon be efficient enough to take over these fields, from content writing to graphic designing and voice over. An article which was recently published in “The Guardian”was written by a robot. It is fascinating and alarming. AI will not be able to take over the creative fields on an immediate basis, but they will be able to perform tasks such as proofreading, bookkeeping, and virtual assistance.

Educational sector:

The educational sector is also another important sector regarding human labor. AI can revolutionize this sector, but it might not be possible for humanoids to completely take over this field. Unless, it becomes self-aware, which might not be possible according to experts. AI in the education sector might need some prior training for both the robot as well as students. However, it might not be possible for AI to take over human labor in this field entirely.

So, AI versus Human labor, which would be dominant?

According to recent research, it is predicted that AI will take over more than 2 million jobs from humans by 2025. It is a fact that human labor is more powerful as of now, but we are not sure about the future.

What should human labor do to sustain itself after AI?

There are good chances that AI will take over most of the sectors by the end of this century, but perhaps humans will be the creators of AI. One of the most effective way to survive this AI wave would be to learn better skills or build a business which revolves around Artificial Intelligence. Many other professions will be able to survive after AI becomes commonly available.

On the contrary, some jobs will surely be taken over by Artificial Intelligence and robots soon. Humanoids can easily become security guards, receptionists, clerks, and bookkeepers, etc. But, what it might not be able to become is an automation specialist, producers, skillful professionals such as doctors, and business managers. Humans have a lot of scope in building a career that AI won’t be able to take over shortly.

Can AI also take over creative jobs?

Humans create AI and robots; so, it could be as creative as one design it to be. However, AI can play a crucial role in being a catalyst for human creativity. Artificial intelligence has already progressed enough to create art, as the world gets introduced to the world’s first robot artist, known as AI-Da. AI is also contributing to music and dance. It is known to be one of the most creative jobs in the world. Robots don’t have self-awareness, which is an indication that robots cannot take over creative jobs.; at least until you program them to become better at creativity.

Conclusion

AI is not a curse for humans but a helper. Humans won’t have to be security guards and receptionists for the sake of money. AI can accelerate human productivity and creativity. There will be someone to perform mundane tasks, so humans could focus on creating a better world for themselves. So, yes! AI might be able to take over human labor in some sectors; however, most of the control will always remain in the human hands. For instance, if an AI graphic designer is given the task of logo designing and is programmed with certain algorithms that ensures creativity. Then, you can expect magic! What we can do to survive the upcoming years is by creating AI, which eventually helps humans with severe issues such as climate change etc.
