Marijuana, cannabis, hash, wax- there are a lot of different names for this plant and its products. All of these plants are of the same species, Cannabis Sativa. But what’s the difference between them all?
The plant comprises two main parts: a flower, which people have been using for centuries as medicine and making textiles, and its seeds, used in food and body products such as oils or lotions.
The following are the differences between cannabis, marijuana, hash, and wax.
1. Cannabis- Genus Name for the Plant
It is a genus of plants in the family Cannabaceae, flowering. There is a dispute in the number of species within the genus, but it contains at least three species: Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis ruderalis.
Indica has a heavy body high, while Sativa provides an uplifting cerebral effect. Ruderalis is a low-THC variety primarily used for hemp production. They use cannabis for industrial purposes and manufacture goods such as rope, clothing, food, paper, and textiles.
2. Marijuana- Dried Flower
Marijuana, also known as weed, pot, grass, Mary Jane, dope, and reefer, is a Cannabis plant preparation meant to be used as a psychoactive drug or medication. Marijuana is used to describe the flowers that dry out and leaves of the cannabis plant. It is usually smoked or consumed in food or drink. It helps to treat epilepsy, glaucoma, and other medical conditions.
Marijuana is a slang used for the dried leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant that can be smoked, vaporized, or eaten in food products. The active ingredient in marijuana is THC (delta-tetrahydrocannabinol), which causes changes within the brain, leading to the “high” sensation.
3. Hash- A Concentrated Form of Marijuana
Hash is a concentrated form of marijuana formed by compressing the plant’s resin glands. Hashish, or hash, is a drug made from the cannabis plant. It is dried and then squeezed into a small block or ball. Hash can be smoked, eaten, or vaporized. Hash oil is a thick liquid made of the same plant. The consumption of hash oil is by smoking, but it is also valuable for food and drinks.
It is a concentrated form of marijuana that has been around for centuries. It contains a severely high level of THC and other cannabinoids. They consume it in the same way as cannabis – you smoke it, eat it or vaporize it, unlike cannabis, where most people enjoy the hash oil- A type of cannabis extract high in THC levels.
4. Wax- A Concentrated Form of Hash
Wax is another form of hash, just in a more concentrated form. Wax is extracted from the marijuana plant and processed hard or soft wax. The consumption is through smoking, vaporizing, or eating it in food products.
They create wax concentrates through an extraction process involving heat to pull cannabinoids and terpenes from the marijuana plant. The end product looks like soft candle wax and has a very high THC content (up to 90%). It is a sticky, yellowish-brown substance that usually comes in small pieces or slabs. It is consumed via smoking, vaporizing, or eating it in food products.
An additional difference is the form in which it is consumed. You can smoke, vaporize, or eat hash and wax while mixing food products. Cannabis, marijuana is consumed by smoking or vaporizing. The benefits are equally great no matter how you use them.
Now that you know the difference between these terms, you can make an informed decision on which one is best for you. As with anything else, start small and work your way up if needed. Remember to always consult a doctor before using any medication.
